It was Patrick's 30th birthday last week. We are really not the kind of people that make a big deal out of things, but it was the big 3-0 and all, and he deserved something special, so aside from birthday gifts, I also surprised him with a night at a fancy hotel. We even ordered room service and had a buffet breakfast the next morning-- pretty much our favourite things about hotels!
Over the weekend, a few of our very lovely friends planned a little surprise birthday dinner too-- complete with yummy homemade japanese food, birthday cake and even a couple of cute helpers to blow out the candles.

Sounds like a lovely, low-key fun birthday. My brother and his wife often go to hotels for birthdays or anniversaries. They like to relax and just have a little get-away.
