LET THEM EAT CAKE.

I'm pretty sure that just about every kid who was born and raised in Australia in the 80's will remember the Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Cookbook-- or at least remember the amazing birthday cakes we all had, thanks to our mums owing this book. Yep, there's even a facebook page dedicated to it ;) (That's me, above, at my 6th birthday with my beautiful doll cake and amazing plastic clip-on earrings).

So it brightened my day when I walked into General Pants recently and found them selling the original, vintage version of the book in store. Long live the Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Cookbook! You can get your very own copy right here.

  1. Oh my goodness! I loved this book. Blast fromt the past. Planning my cake with mum every year was so much fun. I had a similar cake to you but mum covered the dress in pink and white marshmellows.I was ecstatic. I'm definitely going to buy a copy, thank you for the tip.

Also, gosh you were cute. Love the earrings!

  2. How funny that you should post about it this week. My friend just made the train cake for her 2 year old son last week. He wanted the "choo choo" cake for his birthday. My husband remembered the cake and said he was sure it was meant to have some "smoke" coming out of the front. This picture confirms his awesome memory!
